March 30, 2022 — Food, Health & Consumer Products of Canada (FHCP) welcomes and shares in the Quebec Government's vision to bring healthcare closer to people. As long-time advocates for self-care, we applaud the Government's recognition of the important role self-care can play in our health care system.
People are Quebec's greatest healthcare resource, but their potential is often underestimated and undervalued. The COVID-19 pandemic has demonstrated the vital importance of self-care. Quebecers continue to take steps to manage their health while keeping the publicly funded health care system strong.
Small shifts to improve self-care can add up to massive impacts. Increasing Quebecers' access to safe and effective self-care products can improve health outcomes and free up resources to allow more Quebecers to access a family doctor when they need one.
A 2021 Abacus Data revealed that 94 per cent of Quebecers support self-care. Additionally, 94 per cent believe in a Self-Care Strategy to give Quebecers better tools and support for taking care of their health while ensuring a strong and sustainable publicly funded healthcare system for the long term.
Health care starts at home. We look forward to working with the Government and health partners to make self-care a cornerstone of health care, improve access to primary care, and support growth and innovation in Quebec's health industries to help people care for themselves.
